NCAHA 1-Day AHA Summer Sport Horse & 1-day AHA Summer Dressage Class Lists & Entry Forms

Attached please find the class lists & entry forms for the NCAHA 1-day AHA Summer Sport Horse Show (June 23) and 1-day AHA Summer Dressage Show (June 24) to be held at the Hunt Complex in Raleigh.

Full selection of sport horse under saddle and in hand classes will be offered; dressage thru 4th Level will be offered. These are fully recognized AHA QUALIFYING SHOWS for Region 12, Youth Nationals, Sport Horse Nationals, and East Coast Championships. Points earned will also count toward all AHA awards programs for horses and riders. Entry fees are low. Please take a look and pass this information on to your friends and fellow Arabian/HA sport horse and dressage exhibitors, whether NCAHA members or not. Encourage everyone you can to attend and support this new, less expensive and more relaxed show venue.

Qualify for fall shows, warm up for Region 15, try out that young horse - or just come to have fun!

The class lists and entry forms will be on line at www.ncaha.com within a few days. Entries close June 11th. Stalls are available at; and shavings can be purchased on the grounds (not available by pre-order) or you can show out of your trailer.

Please note: Since AHA has just added sport horse and dressage to the qualifying 1-day shows, they do require a separate entry form and reporting for EACH day of showing....thus one entry form is for sport horse and one for dressage.

Attached please find the April/May, 2012, NCAHA Newsletter with reports on the April 6-8 NCAHA/ODAHA Dual Regional Show, and important information on both our annual NCAHA Summer 2-Day open show and NEW AHA qualifying 1-day Sport Horse and 1-day Dressage shows to be held at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh on June 23-24.

Many of you have enjoyed participating in our open-breed show over the years. We hope that you will plan to attend this year.

Sport horse and dressage exhibitors will be pleased to learn that AHA has recently approved adding sport horse and dressage to their 1-day show format (you can read complete information on these shows on the AHA web site). Because of the demand in our state for a less expensive and less formal qualifying format, NCAHA has decided to host both a 1-day sport horse and 1-day dressage show on the same weekend as we have already rented the Hunt facility for the open show. The 1-day shows are fully approved by AHA to earn qualifying points for regional, youth nationals and sport horse national shows as well as for AHA awards programs on the same basis as any other AHA qualifying show but without USEF fees and approval. We have exceptional judges hired. We need you, the exhibitor! Tell your friends in other clubs and invite them to participate. If you have questions, we'll be happy to answer them. Attached please find the February, 2012, NCAHA Newsletter.

In this issue are updates on the Awards Banquet,a list of new officers and board members, and the latest on our April 6-8, 2012, NCAHA/ODAHA Dual Regional Qualifier.

There is also information on the NCAHA open shows upcoming during this summer and exciting news on the 2012 NC State Fair Arabian Show, which for the first time will include a Sport Horse division.

Please be aware of the USEF's latest drug information prohibiting use of GABA in horses shown in USEF recognized shows. A separate News Flash was sent with this information and it will be posted on our web site.

Newsflash from NCAHA: Important Information Regarding the Use of the Prohibited Substance GABA - Ingredient in Commercial Product "Carolina Gold"NCAHA members Message

I am forwarding to all our members an important update just released by the USEF regarding GABA (ingredient in some commercial supplement products including (but not limited to) "Carolina Gold". All members showing in USEF sanctioned events should carefully check any supplements they are using for this now prohibited ingredient!

Important Information Regarding the Use of the Prohibited Substance GABA – Ingredient in Commercial Product “Carolina Gold”

From the USEF Communications Department

Lexington, KY - Tasked with protecting the welfare of equine athletes and ensuring the balance of competition, the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Program consistently monitors new products and product claims. From time-to-time products appear on the equine supplement market making claims of their effects on the performance of horses in competition.

Recently, reports of the use of a product called "Carolina Gold" have been brought to the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Program. One of the principal constituents of this product is gama aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter.

While initially not considered a forbidden substance, the use of GABA as a "calming supplement" does violate the spirit and intent of the Equine Drugs and Medications Rule. During recent research and administration trials involving "Carolina Gold," many adverse reactions were documented. The nature of these reactions has prompted immediate action from the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Program.

Effective immediately, "Carolina Gold" or any other product containing GABA is considered a forbidden substance under USEF rules. Further, because there are no recognized medical uses for this substance, the use of a Medication Report Form to report its administration is not applicable.

The detection of GABA is being actively pursued by the USEF Equine Drugs and Medications Program and will be implemented without delay or notice. No further announcements will be forthcoming regarding the use of “Carolina Gold” or GABA. All positive findings will be forwarded to the USEF Hearing Committee. Trainers and veterinarians involved in the sale or use of this substance may be subject to fines and/or suspensions. "

The new president is Rory Meacham, the new Youth Director is Jackie Daughton, and the new Secretary is Kathy Villanova. NCAHA Awards Banquet / Elections / Annual Membership Meeting - January 28, 2012

Our annual Awards Banquet, Elections and Membership Meeting is set for Saturday, January 28th, at the Covington "shelter" , a meeting facility directly behind the Hawfields Presbyterian Church, 2115 South NC Highway 119 (Exit 153 from I-40/85, go approximately 1 mile south to the church --parking for the facility just past & slightly behind the church on your right), at Mebane, NC. This is a great location and easy to find!

Youth Meeting will be at 5:45 PM. Social time will begin then. Dinner will be served promptly at 6:30 PM. Immediately following dinner will be the annual membership meeting, elections and awards presentation ceremony. We will have updates on the April 6-8 dual regional qualifier show, the June 23-24 open show, and the October 6 NCAHA Youth Charity Benefit show and also discuss the possibility of a summer sport horse show (if this is something you are interested in, please attend and make your opinions known as planning time is short).

This year's menu features YOUR CHOICE of a small ribeye steak or grilled chicken, baked potato, salad and drink for $12/person. You are requested to bring your favorite desert to share! Door prizes are gratefully accepted. One lucky person will win a free home/farm photo shoot by Lisa Brooker photography.

Reservations must be received by January 14th - Tickets for the meal will not be available at the door.

NCAHA October Newsletter and President's Message

Dear NCAHA Members:

My apologies for not sending a full newsletter the last two months. I did not received a lot of news, and the club did not have many activities in progress. Hopefully, our members who attended the 2011 Canadian, Sport Horse and US Nationals will email me with their accomplishments and send photos which we can share with you in the next issue. Meanwhile, congratulations to ALL of our NCAHA members who won major prizes in these shows; I know there are a lot of you -- please SHARE your victories with us so we can highlight them in the November newsletter! We would love to have photos to update our rotating banner on the web page as well. With all the National shows over, I hope many of you will have time to update me on your achievements over the past few months!

Our October NCAHA Youth Open Show was very successful this year. We were able to use prizes and awards already available (left over from our other shows) and thus save a great deal of money. Thanks to Rob MacDougal for judging the show and to all of those who came out and participated by exhibiting their horses! Special thanks to Sue and Gus Gray for donating the ring and working the gate, Kim Poston serving as ring master, Frank Ward for announcing, and Ellen Deal and Diane Ward for working entries --- it was a sunny but windy day and theirs was not an easy job! My thanks to all those who contributed in so many ways to make the event the success it was. Most of the proceeds from this charity show were donated to the North Carolina Horse Council Foundation, a new non-profit and tax-deductible foundation for the promotion equines in North Carolina and for assistance to equine owners and organizations. NCAHA was their first major contributor, hopefully setting an example for other breed organizations to follow suit.

The AHA Convention will soon open in Vancouver, Canada. We should have news to report on activities there and on resolutions effecting our membership in the December issue of our newsletter.

The NCAHA and ODAHA show committees are already hard at work on our conjoint dual regional show April 6-8, 2012! Plan now to attend.

Our annual Awards banquet, Membership Meeting, and elections will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Covington Shelter behind Hawfields church just off I-40/85 in Mebane. The event this year will be a catered meal including drinks which will be affordable to all; those attending are requested to bring their favorite desert (much easier than food). The "shelter" is fully enclosed, heated and has lots of parking! Kathy Villanova has graciously offered to decorate and several other members have offered to pay the rental. You will be receiving information on submitting points for awards (already on our web site) and on the logistics of the banquet along with reservation forms. I hope that you will all plan to submit points by the December 1st deadline and make plans to attend the event. Your Board of Directors and Awards Committee is working hard to make sure it will be a fun evening! We will be electing a president, secretary, and several board members -- if you wish to run, please get in touch with Sue Gray and toss your name in the ring. There will be several bylaw changes presented for voting by the membership as well. Please watch for a separate email with these.

August, 2012, NCAHA Newsletter and President's Message

This long, hot summer is almost over, and we can begin to look forward to fall -- cooler weather to enjoy our horses, trail riding, Sport Horse and US Nationals, the NC State Fair Horse Show... We have a number of projects going on in the club right now. Among them, preparing for our final open show of the season, the NCAHA Youth Charity Benefit on October 1st at Grayland Farm in Durham, planning for our annual awards banquet and elections, ordering new t-shirts with our club logo for sale to members, filling delegate seats for the AHA November convention, and ongoing planning for the 2012 conjoint dual Regions 12 & 15 next April. Take a moment to read the attached newsletter and respond to questions from the NCAHA Board and Show Committees. Plan, if possible, to support our October 1st show. Consider running for an office or Board position. Begin collecting your 2011 show points (forms on our web page) for participation in the awards program.

NCAHA members Message

My apologies if this is coming to you twice. Some folks were dropped from the earlier mailing.

The June/July newsletter contains photos submitted by members from the Region 12 Championships as well as an update on plans for the 2012 "A" conjoint regional qualifier in Raleigh next April.

Our Board was busy in June finalizing plans for our 2-day open show June 25-26. More on this as well as the High Point winners next month.

I am asking everyone to let the Board of Directors know their preferences regarding the 2012 Awards Banquet and Membership meeting. We will make a decision on the location at our August 15th meeting.

There will be no July Board meeting.

Check out our NCAHA web page for last year's timely article on maintaining your horses in very extreme heat.

Please send us your news items for the next issue not later than July 31st.
